Hi, I’m Ali, the Autistic Autism TherApist

Welcome to Your NeuroDivergent Safe Space

Welcome!

This space is intended to provide resources into understanding what neurodivergence is, what it means to be neurodivergent, and how loved ones and clinical providers can help.

Growing up autistic and diagnosed as an adult, these resources were desperately needed and not available. As I’ve talked with Autistics and families of Autistics, I have learned that my experience was not rare, in fact, the majority of the Autistics I’ve interacted with have shared the loneliness, rejection, and confusion of growing up without understanding why we behave the way that we do, or more specifically, why we don’t behave the way others expect and want us to.

These resources are not only for Autistics however; as we learn more, information will be provided about attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, or as my family likes to refer to it, attention deficit in high definition), sensory processing disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), all of which are considered neurodivergent.

In the Podcast, you will learn more about the traits of autism, co-occurring mental health and medical challenges, and what to do to help and support. This is a section made for Autistics and their loved ones.

In the Resources, those who provide care for Autistics will learn more about what it is to care for and treat distress. This section is for clinical providers including educators, counselors, social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, and other supportive workers.

Explore & enjoy,

With love, Ali
